BIRGUNJ: The Nepal-India Integrated Check Post (ICP) in Birgunj has come into operation after few hours of joint-inauguration by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Prime Minister Oli and his Indian counterpart Modi inaugurated the Integrated Check Post (ICP) in Birgunj amid a programme in Hyderabad House, New Delhi, today.

The import-export operations have formally begun as truck loads of petroleum and shoes and door-mat transited in and out through the ICP immediately after the inauguration.

On the first day, the ICP witnessed 85 tankers hauling petroleum to Nepal while 3 truckloads of shoes and door mats were exported to India, Chief of Birgunj Customs, Sewantak Pokharel informed.

The ICP, spread over an area of 116 Bigha in Nepali territory and 100 Bigha in Indian territory share a symmetrical building design.

An accord to establish the ICP was signed by India and Nepal on 2005 while the foundations for the buildings were laid on 2010.
