PM Dahal holds talks with top leaders of Madhesi parties

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal held formal talks with the top leaders of Madhesi parties and expressed readiness on behalf of the Government of Nepal to meet their demands.

Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba also took part in the tripartite meeting held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singhadarbar this morning.

Dahal, who was elected Nepal's Prime Minister on Wednesday, assumed his office yesterday evening.

Before the prime ministerial election, the alliance of Nepali Congress and Dahal's party CPN Maoist Centre had forged a three-point agreement to meet the Madhesi parties' demand while securing their support to the Dahal-led government.

As per the understanding made today, it has been learned that the Cabinet scheduled today would formally decide to announce those killed in the protests in Tarai-Madhes region as martyrs, provide a package to their families and bear expenses for treatment of those injured on the line of the three-point agreement.

Also, the leaders discussed the amendment of Constitution as pointed out by the Madhesi parties.

Upendra Yadav of Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal, Mahantha Thakur of Tarai Madhes Democratic Party, Laxman Lal Karna of Sadbhawana Party and Raj Kishor Yadav of Madhesi Janadhikari Forum-Republican among others had taken part in the meeting.
