KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 29
One Nepali Soldier deployed in United Nation's Interim Field in Lebanon was injured at 10:20 pm local time yesterday in a shell fire exchange between Israel Defence Forces and Hezbollah militants in Lebanon.
According to Spokesperson for Nepali Army Brigadier General Krishna Prasad Bhandari, the soldier, deployed at UN Post 8-33 sustained minor injuries in his right hand and right side of the abdomen when a mortar or rocket shell fired during exchange of fire between the two sides fell near his post following which he received first aid at the battalion's health centre before being shifted to a UNIFIL medical facility in Naqoura area of Lebanon. It is not yet clear which side - IDF or Hezbollah militants - is responsible for the incident.
There are 874 Nepali Army personnel, including 24 staff members currently deployed in Lebanon.
According to information posted in Nepali Army website as of 20 October 2023, the Nepali Army has deployed across 13 missions around the world. As a troop-contributing country, Nepal ranks second in the world.
Currently, Nepali Army has some 6,062 soldiers, including 586 female soldiers serving in 13 different missions around the globe. Nepal has the commitment to provide up to 10,000 peacekeepers should the UN so request.
