The High Commission of the Republic of Zambia in India has appointed Nepali businessperson Desh Bandhu Basnet as Zambia's Honorary Consul in Nepal.

The appointment was announced by Judith K K Kan'goma Kapijimpanga, the Ambassador of Zambia to India, amid a ceremony held in the Embassy with the consular jurisdiction over Kathmandu Valley (Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur) to handle the Consular and Economics issues on behalf of the Republic of Zambia.

Ambassador Judith K K Kan'goma Kapijimpanga handed over the letter of commission, national flag, and the seal of the office to Basnet, stated a press release.

Congratulating the newly-appointed Honorary Consul, Zambian Ambassador to India Kapijimpanga expressed her confidence that Basnet will help protect the legitimate rights and interests of the State and people of Zambia and guide them in abiding by local laws.

The release further stated that the appointment aims to promote and strengthen the bilateral relations between Nepal and Zambia, as well as to boost trade, investment, tourism, culture, and tourism, contributing to the development of the two countries' strategic partnership.

Business leader Desh Bandhu Basnet is an engineer by education and an entrepreneur by profession who took over the charge of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) as Executive Committee Member and Chairperson of Bi-National NRN Coordinator (FNCCI).

Basnet has been associated with various national and international associations and served for regional integration and economic cooperation. He is an Executive Committee Member of SAARC Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SAARC CCI) and Advisor for International Investment Promotion Committee (FNCCI), Province 1 (FNCCI), and Trade Fair Committee (FNCCI).
