‘NC ticket to likely winners in third phase of local elections’

Kathmandu, July 20

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba today said that his party would give tickets only to those with high chances of winning in the local level elections in Province 2.

Addressing the Nepali Congress Province 2 meeting here in Kathmandu, PM Deuba said the party would focus on becoming the first party in the third phase of local level elections.

The PM also directed all leaders and party workers to unite for the third phase of local level polls.

PM Deuba, who is also the NC president, blamed internal betrayal for loss in so many local levels in the first and second phase of elections.

Saying that the party could not become first if it did not get rid of internal betrayal, Deuba also warned of disciplinary action against those found guilty.

NC leader Bimalendra Nidhi said the Nepali Congress should win majority of local levels to become the first party, as the Nepali Congress was party of the Tarai-Madhes. He said the party was defeated even in its stronghold areas in the first and second phase of elections. He asked leaders and party members for not to let this repeat in the third phase of elections.

The Nepali Congress had called a meeting of Province 2 to discuss its poll strategy in which Central Working Committee members, lawmakers, district secretaries, former lawmakers of Province 2 and central leaders were invited.
