KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 3
Nepali mountaineers Tashi Lakpa Sherpa and Nima Rinji Sherpa were welcomed by Mendoza Mayor Ulpiano Suarez this week following their successful ascent of Aconcagua, South America's highest peak.
During the meeting, the climbers shared their mountaineering experiences and discussed ways to promote mountain tourism globally. "It was great to explore how the mountain tourism industries of the Himalayas and Aconcagua can grow together for future generations," said Tashi Lakpa, owner of the 14 Peaks Expedition.
Mayor Suarez praised Mendoza's development as one of South America's best-managed mountain cities. "Mendoza continues to strengthen its position as a premier mountaineering destination through coordinated efforts with global leaders and sustained tourism development," he said.
The discussion also touched on the potential establishment of a sister city relationship between Mendoza and mountain cities in Nepal. "Nepal can learn from Mendoza's example in developing mountain cities," Tashi Lakpa added.
Nima Rinji, the world's youngest climber to summit all 14 peaks above 8,000 meters, highlighted the professionalism, hospitality, and high-quality services at Aconcagua Provincial Park.
The international climbing team that reached Aconcagua's summit on January 28 included climbers from Nepal, Mexico, the UK, Kuwait, and Argentina, along with expedition doctor Catalina Giusti of Argentina.
