Nepali team leave for World Rafting Championship
KATHMANDU: An eight-member Nepali team including seven athletes and a coach have left here for Queensland of Australia today to participate in the World Rafting Championship.
Team Captain Suraj Gurung along with athletes Shakti Kumar Gurung, Padam Bahadur Gurung, Dipesh Gurung, Sabin Gurung, Sunil Gurung and Rabil Miya will compete under men's open team category in the championship. The team is led by central member of Nepal Association of Rafting Agencies and international coach Nim Bahadur Magar.
Held from May 13 to 20, teams from 30 countries will compete through a combination of disciplines that include sprints, head to head, slalom and downriver, as per the official website of the championship.
The Nepali team is going to participate in 250 metres sprint, 350 metres head to head, 450 metres slalom, and 21-25 metres downriver race.
This is the second time Nepal is participating in the World Rafting Championship. Earlier in 2017, Nepal had participated in the championship held in Japan.
