KATHMANDU, MAY 12

Nepal's Covid-19 tally moved to 422,349 as 9,238 fresh cases were reported in the past 24 hours on Wednesday, bringing the number of active cases to more than 100k across the country.

As many as 168 more Covid deaths were logged today after which Nepal's Covid-19 death toll stands at 4,252.

Meanwhile, antigen tests confirmed 67 positive cases in the past 24 hours. As such, total infections from both RT-PCR and antigen tests added up to 9,305.

The capital city recorded 3,250 infections, Lalitpur 448 cases, and Bhaktapur 226 cases today, taking the valley's total 24-hour figure to 3,924.

Both new infections and deaths have risen sharply after Nepal logged Covid-19 cases in four digits on April 18.

According to the health ministry, 20,786 total tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, of which 20,362 were PCR tests while 424 were antigen tests. With this, a total of 2,693,088 PCR tests have been carried out in Nepal till date.

Likewise, 4,444 people who were earlier infected with the virus have been discharged in the past 24 hours as per the latest data provided by the health ministry. As of today, 316,463 individuals have recovered from the novel coronavirus infection. The recovery rate from the disease stands at 74.9 per cent.

Nepal's active Covid-19 case count currently stands at 101,634.

Currently, there are 517 individuals in various quarantine facilities across Nepal.

On Tuesday, Nepal's coronavirus case count reached 413,111 with 9,317 newly confirmed cases.

Globally, over 160 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus while 3.3 million people have lost their lives to the disease. Likewise, over 138 million people have recovered while more than 18 million cases are still active.
