KATHMANDU, MAY 08

Nepal on Saturday reported 8,287 new cases of coronavirus infection from across the country. With this, the Covid-19 caseload has reached 385,890 on Saturday.

Meanwhile, antigen tests confirmed 131 positive cases in the past 24 hours. As such, total infections from both the RT-PCR and antigen tests added up to 8,418 today.

With the latest additions, the countrywide Covid-19 mortality toll stands at 3,632 with 53 fatalities recorded today.

Both new infections and deaths have risen sharply after Nepal logged Covid-19 cases in four digits on April 18.

According to the health ministry, 18,304 total tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, of which 17,315 were PCR tests while 989 were antigen tests. With this, a total of 2,615,720 PCR tests have been carried out in Nepal till date.

Likewise, 3,370 people who were earlier infected with the virus have been discharged in the past 24 hours as per the latest data provided by the health ministry. As of today, 298,765 individuals have recovered from the novel coronavirus infection. The recovery rate from the disease declines to 77.4 per cent.

Nepal's active Covid-19 case count currently stands at 83,493.

Currently, there are 398 individuals in various quarantine facilities across Nepal.

On Friday, Nepal's coronavirus case count reached 377,603 with 9,023 newly confirmed cases.

Globally, over 157 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus while 3.2 million people have lost their lives to the disease. Likewise, over 134 million people have recovered while more than 19 million cases are still active.
