KATHMANDU, JULY 30

The 32-year-old Umeed Sherpa from Nepal made waves at the Oceanic Championship, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competition in Sydney, Australia, by securing four medals.

As the sole representative from Nepal, Sherpa displayed exceptional skill and determination, winning gold in both the open weight Gi and no-gi categories. He also clinched silver in the Gi 76 kg category and bronze in the no-gi 79 kg category.

Sherpa's standout performance came in the open weight division, where he defeated a formidable 115 kg, 6'2" Aboriginal opponent by submission via the Ezekiel choke.

His victories contributed significantly to his club, SJJA Crows Nest, securing third place and a trophy in the Best Male Gi category.

Sherpa's achievements not only underscore his prowess but also mark a significant milestone for Nepal in the realm of martial arts.

The Oceanic Championship, organized by Events BJJ, is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competition for kids, juveniles, adults, and masters in both Gi and no-gi categories across all belt levels. The single-elimination tournament was held on July 27.
