Nepathya gets ready for a two-city US tour this June
KATHMANDU: Celebrating the silver year of their genesis, Nepathya readies itself for a two-city US tour, likely to be the band's fifth entourage to the United States.
The tour will kick off from Dallas in Texas, where the band will perform at ‘The Bomb Factory’ on June 9, organised by DT and Momo Entertainment, and will end in Boston of Massachusetts. This is the first time the band is performing in these two cities.
"We are delighted to host Nepathya in Dallas,” said DJ Momo from the organising group. “We have been pursuing this opportunity since 2015 when Nepathya had come for their show in New York. However, due to international tour management issues, it could not materialise. We then went to meet the band management when they were in San Francisco in 2016. The show was agreed upon and our team is delighted to share this joy with the Dallas based Nepali diaspora," he added.
Nepathya as a group had first travelled to the US in 2004 when they had performed a show in Phoenix and Washington DC, after which, Nepathya travelled to the US on three other occasions and has so far performed in Los Angeles, Atlanta, New York and San Francisco.
After completing their show in Dallas, the band will be engaged for some recording consultancy and will go to Boston to perform at the ‘Royale Boston’ on June 24. The show is being hosted jointly by Jatra Nepal and Boston Tamu Samaj.
“Each time Nepathya performed in New York, we talked in our group about missing the opportunity to host them in Boston," expressed Samjhana Gurung of Boston Tamu Samaj. "This time we heard our friends at ‘Jatra Nepal’ were in contact with the band management for the show and we did not want to lose the opportunity, so we joined hands with them," she added.
“We are extremely glad to be hosting Nepathya in Boston," said Ujjwal Dhaubadel of Boston-based Jatra Nepal. "All technical arrangements have been finalised and we will leave no stones unturned to make this a memorable event here."
Both these shows will be part of the ongoing 25 years celebration of Nepathya.
Amrit Gurung will be accompanied by his bandmates, technicians and management for the tour.
“We have been travelling in and beyond Nepal as part of this celebration. It is humbling to receive such love and support from our listeners everywhere we perform," expressed Nepathya frontman Amrit Gurung. “We look forward to sharing our musical journey with our listeners in Boston and Dallas," he added.
As per the latest NRN records, both Dallas and Boston are amongst the cities with considerable Nepali population in the US.
“We have seen non-Nepali participation growing with each show. We expect the same trend in these shows," said Kiran Krishna Shrestha of Nepalaya, producers and promoters of Nepathya. He further emphasised to encourage Nepalis to bring their second generation American Nepalis to the shows so that they experience connectivity to their ancestral land.
After completing the two-city tour, Nepathya will return home on June 27.
