Nepal Mountaineering Association has decided to provide relief to 3,000 tourism workers who were the worst hit by COVID-19.
NMA Chairperson Santabir Lama informed that they would be distributing relief materials to financially poor tourism workers who were most affected by the coronavirus pandemic. The assistance will be provided with the support of Nippon Foundation, Japan.
An announcement to this effect was made during a programme organised in the presence of Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Prem Bahadur Ale in the federal capital today. Chairperson Lama further said the relief would be distributed in the next three months.
The Nippon Foundation had reached agreement to provide nearly Rs 25 million to the NMA for relief distribution to the poor workers. Even the people surviving leprosy are entitled to the relief.
Among 11,000 workers affiliated with NMA and beneficiaries will be selected and given relief materials such as rice, pulse, sugar, cooking oil, salt, among others.
Moreover, NMA has decided to distribute health safety materials to isolation centres for treatment of COVID patients.
Similarly, oxygen cylinders will be provided to climbers. As many as 500 climbers will be selected for life support.
At the programme, Minister Ale appreciated the initiative taken by the NMA.
