KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 21
Province 1 lawmaker Indra Bahadur Angbo registered a no-confidence motion against Chief Minister Sher Dhan Rai at the provincial assembly meeting, today.
CM Rai's attempt to stop today's provincial assembly meeting, fearing that no-confidence vote was likely to be registered then and there, was quashed by Speaker Pradeep Kumar Bhandari.
Rai had reportedly urged Bhandari not to table the no-confidence motion. However, Bhandari allowed the motion to be registered ignoring his request.
The Province 1 Chief Minister represents the Oli-faction while the no-trust motion movers belong to the Dahal-Nepal faction of the ruling Nepal Communist Party.
Recently, the President on recommendation of the Oli-Cabinet had relieved the Governor of Province 2, having him replaced by Rajesh Ahiraj Jha.
The two factions have been displaying show-of-strength by holding mass rallies while also engaging in pulling leaders and cadres to their respective groups in this tug-of-war for power.
The verdict of the Constitutional Bench formed by the Supreme Court to hear the case on House Dissolution is likely to spell a verdict on the case within the next couple of days, the decision of which would determine the political course of action in the country in the days to come.
