Earlier, Minister of Communications and Information Technology Parbat Gurung had announced that the government will bring new directives to prevent online media and social networking sites from spreading hateful messages.

The proposal has drawn much flak towards the incumbent government and the decision has been regarded as the government's attempt to curb freedom of expression as guaranteed by the Constitution of Nepal.
