NRNA America, Canada chapters to provide relief to flood survivors
KATHMANDU: Under the joint efforts of Regional Coordinator of International Coordination Council of the Non-Resident Nepali Association for Americas Sonam Lama and NRNA ICC Deputy Regional Coordinator for Americas AC Sherpa, NRN National Coordination Council USA and NRNA NCC Canada have raised over US$50,000 to help flood victims in Nepal.
Bed Raj Basnet, Treasurer, NRNA NCC OF USA informed that more donors are joing hands with NRNA to support the flood and landslide victims in Nepal. According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, at least 143 persons were killed and 29 still went missing in floods and landslides that struck the parts of country last week.
Thousands of families have been rendered homeless in the incidents.
NRNA members would visit Saptari to provide relief to the victims of recent flooding, Sherpa who is also Nepal’s Honorary Consulate to Washington State said. Sherpa arrived in Nepal on Monday while Lama will be also visiting country with relief materials in a day or two.
NRNA has actively been working to construct a model village in Gupsipakha, Laprak, near the epicentre of the 2015 April earthquake in Gorkha district. “NRNA will always be there to support Nepalis in need,” Sherpa reacted.
