KATHMANDU, MAY 6

National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC) has established a new field office within the headquarters premises of Rara National Park. On Monday, Minister for Forests and Environment Ain Bahadur Shahi Thakuri inaugurated NTNC's Rara-based office.

According to NTNC's Member Secretary Dr. Naresh Subedi, the new Rara Conservation Program office has been set up in Hutu, where the central office of the park is located. He informed that the office will focus on climate change impacts in the Himalayan region, mountain tourism, and conservation and research related to the biodiversity of the Rara region.

Minister Shahi, who also serves as the Chairperson of NTNC, expressed his belief that the office will help effectively address biodiversity conservation and climate change issues in Mugu district.

This is NTNC's first office in Karnali Province. The new establishment aims to strengthen biodiversity conservation, promote eco-tourism, and enhance community collaboration in the province.

NTNC's Bardiya Conservation Program is currently coordinating the initial activities of the Rara office. According to NTNC, this initiative is a strategic step to take conservation and sustainable development efforts to new heights in one of Nepal's most remote yet ecologically rich landscapes.

With this expansion, NTNC now has offices in all provinces of Nepal except Madhesh Province. According to Conservation Officer Gobinda Prasad Pokharel, NTNC currently operates offices in Koshi, Chitwan, Bardiya, and Shuklaphanta targeting the Terai region. He further informed that NTNC also manages the Gaurishankar, Annapurna, and Manaslu Conservation Areas, along with the Central Zoo located in Jawalakhel.
