Number of viral fever patients up in Jajarkot
Jajarkot, September 12
The number of patients suffering from viral fever has increased in health facilities for the last one week in Jajarkot district.
Aasha BK, 14, a permanent resident of Barekot Rural Municipality, currently residing in Khalanga, died due to viral fever last night.
Health workers said the district hospital and other health facilities were filled with patients suffering from viral fever.
Local journalist Resham Khadka said patients in remote areas could not receive treatment due to lack of medicines and health workers in health facilities of the district. “When patients reach hospitals, they can’t get medicines and health workers also cannot be seen in the health facilities,” he added.
The problems occurred after local bodies did not take forward the process of procuring medicines for this fiscal. Patients were compelled to buy medicines at an expensive rate from private dispensaries.
Prasad Nepali, another local of Chhedagada said patients from remote areas faced problems reaching hospitals due to lack of transport facility. He added that stretchers had to be used to carry patients to health facilities.
Nepali said no local level had procured medicines even though the local authorities knew that patients were being deprived of medicines provided free of cost.
Dr Keshar Karki of Jajarkot District Hospital said around 100 to 150 patients reached the hospital on a daily basis. “Of them, more than 50 per cent patients were found to be suffering from viral fever,” he added.
The doctor said that patients have been increasing every day while the stock of medicines was almost finished. Dr Karki added that asthma patients were affected the most.
He urged patients to pay attention to their eating habits and visit the hospital immediately after being infected by viral fever.
