Nurses on strike

KATHMANDU: Around 200 nurses associated with Nepal Nursing Association, including Nepal Nursing Council staffers, on Tuesday staged a sit-in in front of Ministry of Health and Population demanding the implementation of the six-point agreement made with them earlier. The police arrested some 53 protestors but released them in the evening, Takma KC, former vice president of NNC, said. Three of those arrested sustained minor injuries in the melee. The nurses announced a complete shut down of all the departments including the emergency ward in private and government hospitals and health posts in the afternoon. Some hospitals had already been shut by the nurses. The nurses are demanding that the pay and perks for the staff nurses be revised and the growing politicisation of the NNC checked.
