CPN-UML leader Raghuji Panta today charged that the incumbent government led by CPN-MC Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal was in no mood to hold elections.

Speaking at a press meet organised by Press Chautari, Kaski chapter in Pokhara today, Panta argued that the government was preparing to dismantle the Commission for Local Election Structure.

He said, “We shall know if the government will hold local polls by mid-October on the basis of its activities. If it doesn’t hold elections as scheduled, CPN-UML will take the responsibility.”

Though the central, provincial and local elections are slated to be held by February next year, the government is reluctant to do so, he argued. “At a time when the government is unnecessarily stalling cabinet expansion, how can we trust it to hold polls on time?” he questioned.

Panta said his party would play a constructive role as an opposition.

“If the government fails to effectively implement the constitution, our party will have no option but to resort to the street. CPN-UML is always creative, supportive and constructive with regard to implementation of the constitution and elections,” he said.

Panta said CPN-MC Chairperson and Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal was delusional in claiming that the Deputy Prime Ministers’ visit to neighbouring countries would strengthen bilateral relations.
