An office attendant was elected ward chairman in the local level poll held at Budhiganga Municipality in Bajura on July 7.

Rana Bahadur Thapa from the CPN-UML won the election at Ward No 1 of the municipality. He defeated his closest rival Lok Bahadur Thapa from the Nepali Congress. Rana Bahadur received 416 votes, while Lok Bahadur got 358 votes. Rana Bahadur used to work in the ward office on contract till April 13. He had to resign as office attendant to contest the post of chairman. The Nepali Congress' Rajesh Kumar Singh, along with his panel, had won the last local level election in 2017.

Thapa said that he had worked in the ward when he was an office attendant.

He said he understood the real pain and suffering of people. Locals said the UML had taken the right decision by offering the ticket to Thapa.
