Chairperson of the CPN- UML KP Sharma Oli has suggested naming Province 1 as Koshi.
Addressing the first convention of Press Chautari Nepal, Province 1, at Birtamode today, Oli said that it would be appropriate to name Province 1 as Koshi Province as the Koshi River originated before human civilization.
He said, "Koshi carries old civilisation and tradition.
Its religion, culture, civilisations and tradition are connected to Koshi. It will be appropriate and common to name the province on the basis of the identity of civilization rather than ethnic identity.
Therefore, Province 1 should be named as Koshi Province without delay."
On a different note, the UML Chair mentioned that none of the parties of the ruling alliance had courage to fight with the CPN-UML in the upcoming elections.
He further said that it was unfortunate for the NC, which fought for democracy for a long time, to make an alliance with leftists.
Earlier, Oli had garlanded the statues of five martyrs at Salbadi of Arjundhara Municipality - Ramnath Dahal, Netra Ghimire, Biren Rajbanshi, Krishna Kuinkel and Narayan Shrestha.
