KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 22

Nepali mountaineer Omnika Dangol has successfully summited Aconcagua in Argentina, marking her fifth peak in the Seven Summits challenge.

Dangol reached the 6,962-metre summit at 3:40 pm (local time) on February 1, according to a press statement issued in Kathmandu.

Her expedition was marked by severe weather and extreme physical demands. While descending from the summit, Dangol and her team were caught in a heavy snowstorm and reportedly lost their route in whiteout conditions before safely returning to Camp 3. The summit push from Camp 3 and back took 26 hours, as the team battled freezing temperatures, strong winds and thin air at high altitude.

Dangol began her mountaineering journey in 2021 after trekking to Everest Base Camp. In 2022, she became the first flight attendant in the world to summit Mount Everest. She also became the first Nepali woman to climb Carstensz Pyramid.

Before scaling Everest, she had climbed Mera Peak, Lobuche and Island Peak within nine days.

Following her Everest ascent, Dangol committed to completing the Seven Summits, dedicating her climbs to supporting senior citizens. So far, she has summited Everest, Mount Kilimanjaro, Carstensz Pyramid and Aconcagua.

She now plans to attempt Denali and Mount Vinson to complete the challenge.
