NUWAKOT: On International Labour Day, workers of several political parties held a protest rally in Nuwakot on Sunday demanding restoration of democracy and press freedom. NC, UML and NC (D) cadres took out a rally at Battar Bazaar. After a round of Battar Bazaar, the rally turned into a corner meeting at Old Bazaar Chowk. — HNS

Blast in private school

BHAIRAHAWA: An unidentified gang detonated a bomb at Sunshine Higher Secondary Boarding School here on Sunday. According to eyewitnesses, three persons who came on a motorcycle, detonated a pressure cooker bomb in the hostel at 12.30 pm after overpowering the security guard. Classes had gotten over by that time. No one was injured, said the District Police Office. The school administration said property worth Rs 4 million has been damaged. — HNS

DDC vehicle torched

PUTALI BAZAAR: Maoists set fire to a DDC pick-up van in Syangja district on Sunday while it was heading to Butwal. The van was taken towards Amuwa of Siddhartha Highway where it was set ablaze. — RSS

21 girls rescued

Birgunj: Maiti Nepal, Birgunj, on Friday rescued 21 girls being trafficked to Kuwait via New Delhi from Birgunj and Raxaul. Five of the rescued girls were handed over to their guardians on Sunday. The girls, all btween 18-26, were were being trafficked for ‘risky’ jobs. Sangita Puri, Birgunj Maiti Nepal chief said three girls were rescued from Birgunj, seven from Raxaul and five from Narkatiyagunj police station. Six girls of Ghyampe VDC of Sindhupalchowk district were rescued at Raxaul by Maiti Nepal on Friday. — HNS

Three killed in blast

POKHARA: A civilian and two securitymen were killed in a landmine blast at Udipur area of Lamjung district on Friday. The Maoists targeted the security team which was returning to base camp. A local, Lok Raj Adhikari, 54, was also killed. Central Division Headquarters, Pokhara, identified the dead personnel as armed police constables Yagya Raj Magar of Sunsari and Gopal Sunar of Parbat. — HNS
