Memorandum to PM
KIRTIPUR: Tribhuvan University Victims’ Struggle Committee (TUVSC) is all set to submit a memorandum to Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Friday. The memorandum, along with signatures collected from the locals in support of the agitators’ cause, will be handed over to the PM, the committee said. The committee has been agitating for nearly three weeks, demanding compensation for the land acquired by the university. The university has been shut since January 1 due to the agitation. — HNS
Case filed
DAMAK: A case was filed under the Arms and Ammunition Act against five cadres of Kirant Janawadi Workers Party on Thursday. They were arrested along with weapons while collecting donation in Damak on January 10. Gopal Giri, Hemanta Limbu, Buddhahang Kirant, Sal Bahadur BK and Santa Gajmer were facing the charge under the act, the police said. the police said the five were held along with two rounds of bullets. — HNS
Power cut hits phones
DAMAK: Mobile phone services in Damak of Jhapa district have been disrupted due to excessive load-shedding. Cell phone services in the area were disrupted due to the power shortage to operate the Telecom towers, a source at Damak office of Nepal Telecom said. Users said CDMA and sky phones were also affected due to the power cuts. A total of 50,000 CDMA, sky and cell phones have been distributed in the western part of Jhapa district, according to the Telecom office. — HNS
