CIAA on land ceiling
Kathmandu: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Tuesday directed the Ministry of Land Reform and Management to adopt appropriate policy on land ceiling. “Adopt an appropriate policy — whether to seize excess land or put it at auction if loans were taken keeping such land as security bond at banks,” the CIAA asked the ministry in a press release. — HNS
Property gutted
KATHMANDU: Fire broke out in a two-storey house owned by Kashiraj Dangol at Pepsicola on Tuesday evening damaging property worth Rs 1 million, police said. Inspector Deepak Neupaney at the MPC, New Baneshwor, said three fire fighting teams, along with locals and policemen, brought the fire under control at around 9:30 pm. — HNS
Emergency landing
BIRATNAGAR: A chopper flying from Kathmandu to Ilam’s Chulachuli-based Maoist camp made an emergency landing in Okhaldhunga’s Chiuridanda two hours after it took off. According to deputy superintendent of police, Dipak Thapa of Khotang district police, technical snag and bad weather forced the chopper to make an emergency landing. Eleven passengers, including crew members, returned to Kathmandu after the chopper was repaired. — HNS
2 held with weapons
BIRATNAGAR: Police held two Madhesi Mukti Morcha cadres with weapons from Siraha on Tuesday. Police held Santosh Shah of Rampur-2 and Kapil Yadav of Karjana-5. Arms and documents, including a revolver, six rounds of bullets, two pistols, a motorbike, receipts of donation and some books were also seized from the duo, police said. — HNS
UML meet begins
KATHMANDU: The two-day meeting of the UML advisory committee began on Tuesday with the committee members emphasising on unity among the pro-federal republican parties until the CA polls are held. Inaugurating the meeting at the UML office, general secretary Madhav Nepal said unity of the SPA is a must to successfully hold the polls. — HNS
NC activist released
SIRAHA: Rajeshwor Kamati, who was abducted six days ago from Hanumannagar of Siraha by an unidentified group ,was released on Monday. It is learnt that he was released after his family gave ransom to the group. Kamati, an NC activist, was abducted from his home on Magh 9. — HNS
