7 injured in accident

TANAHUN: Seven passengers were hurt when the minibus heading to Chandrawati from Dumre met with an accident at Barbhabjyang of Bhanu Marga here on Thursday night. Padam Bahadur Karki and Puspa Karki of Barbhabjyang-8, who were critically injured, have been sent to Pokhara for treatment and five others injured are undergoing treatment in local clinics, the Tanahun District Police Office said. — HNS

Project reopens

PYUTHAN: The Jhimru Hydro-power Project in Pyuthan district resumed operations on Friday. A police team broke open the padlock put two days ago on the main gate of the dam by the former employees demanding reappointment, said Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Shyam Gyawali. The Butwal Power Company, which owns the project, was forced to cut 200 jobs after Maoists blew up a part of the dam six years ago. Company official Amin Kumar Regmi said that the company had to cut jobs after the destruction of a part of the dam. — HNS

1 killed in mishap

ITAHARI: One person died another one was critically injured in two separate mishaps in Sunsari and Morang districts on Friday. According to Regional Traffic Police Office, Itahari, Kumari BK, 50, of Shanishchare – 1, Aitabare, of Morang died after she was hit by a motorcycle at Kanepokhari. The motorcyclist has been taken into custody, police said. Similarly, Binod Dhakal of Itahari-5 was critically injured after he was hit by a passenger bus at Traffic Chowk in Itahari-1 on Thursday. — HNS

Badal’s stance

DHANGADHI: CPN-(Maoist) leader Ram Bahadur Thapa ‘Badal’ said royalists were conspiring to defer the CA polls. At a press conference, organised by revolutionary journalists here on Friday, Badal claimed that the remarks of the minister without portfolio Sujata Koirala and the meeting of the royalist Nepali Congress also authenticate it. “Though the republican system has dawned in the country legally, the monarchy continues to remain in practice,” he said. — HNS

FNJ convention held

BAGLUNG: Controversy marred the third district convention of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists Baglung chapter, that ended on Thursday night. Alleging political intervention that deprived some journalists to take FNJ membership, some 20 journalists affiliated to this chapter boycotted the convention. The branch office has 49 general members. Despite protests, a new executive committee was formed under the leadership of Hari Narayan Gautam. The disgruntled group formed a parallel body under Gyanendra Gautam. — HNS

Japanese grant

Kathmandu: The government of Japan on Friday extended a grant equivalent to Rs 5.4 million to the Himalaya Area Conservation and Development Committee (HACDC) for implementation of a project for construction of Buddha Primary and Secondary School Hostel in Gorkha. This financial assistance is extended under the grant assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) scheme of the government of Japan. The ambassador of Japan to Nepal Tatsuo Mizuno and president of HACDC Dhan Bahadur Gurung signed the contract on Friday. — HNS

Staffers resume work

RAJBIRAJ: Work at the Rajbiraj-based Nepal Telecom (NT) office which has remained disrupted since four days has resumed on Friday. Earlier, staffers at the Telecom office were protesting against the acts of office chief Ram Pratap Shah and demanding his transfer. They also reached the Telecom’s regional office in Biratnagar and staged a sit-in there. — HNS
