Cannabis crop buried

SIRAHA: Police on Monday evening destroyed and buried cannabis plantation on two bighas of land in ward numbers 8 and 9 of Ramnagar Mirchaya in Siraha. “Team of the Armed Police Force and Civil Police personnel destroyed the plantation last evening,” said SP at the district police office Mingmar Lama. The police, however, declined to name the person who cultivated the plants. — HNS

Bandh hits life

RAUTAHAT: The indefinite bandh called by the Nepal Sadbhawana Party (Mahato faction) and the Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum crippled normal life here for the third consecutive day on Tuesday. While vehicles did not ply on Gaur-Chandranigahapur section of the Birendra Highway, shops remained closed in the villages due to the bandh. Locals accused the local administration of not trying to address the agitators’ demands and end the strike. — HNS

JTMM-J abducts man

SIRAHA: JTMM-J central member Swami Yadav on Monday has owned up the responsibility for abducting Ramesh Shrestha from Siraha’s Fulbariya- 3. Shreshta, 22-year-old student, was abducted for spying against the JTMM-J and will be released only after investigation, Yadav said. — HNS

Woman found dead

BARA: A woman was found dead in Bara’s Dumarwana- 7 along the Mahendra Highway on Monday night. The Bara district police office said that the woman must have been died after a vehicle hit her. The woman is yet to be be identified, police said. Meanwhile, her dead body has been taken to the Narayani hospital. — HNS

Resignation accepted

KATHMANDU: The Prime Minister has accepted the resignation tendered by Minister for Environment, Science and Technology Mahantha Thakur, in accordance with Article 38 (8) Section B of the Interim Constitution of Nepal, 2007. Also, the Prime Minister has designated Minister for Peace and Reconstruction, Ram Chandra Poudel, to look after the portfolio of the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology.

One hurt in blast

BIRATNAGAR: A man was injured in a bomb blast at Sagardiwa of Babiya Birta village development committee ward number nine here on Tuesday afternoon. The Morang District Police Office said Rana Pratap Majhi was injured when the bomb went off in a field. Majhi is undergoing treatment at the Koshi Zonal Hospital. Police suspect that the bomb might have been left behind the field by robbers who came to loot the village a few days back. — RSS

Land survey in Susta

PARSA: A land survey has been started at Ward 4 of Tribeni Susta VDC, which has been encroached by India, of Nawalparasi from Tuesday. A team of two officers from the Department of Land Survey, Kathmandu, including a chief officer of Goshwara Land Survey Office, reached the site on Tuesday, said acting chief district officer Surya Kafle. — RSS
