Mishaps kill two

SIRAHA: Two persons were killed in separate mishaps in Siraha and Chitwan districts on Friday night. A 55-year-old man was killed when a vehicle hit him near the army barracks at Chauharwa of Siraha on the Mahendra Highway, police said, adding the body of the unidentified person has been taken to the Lahan Hospital for post-mortem. Meanwhile, a report from Chitwan said one person was killed and another hurt in a road accident in Chitwan on Friday night. The mishap occurred when a pick-up van heading to Mugling from Narayangarh skidded off the road on the Mugling-Narayangarh road section of the Prithvi Highway. Injured driver Indra Bahadur Tamang of Sindhupalchowk is undergoing treatment at the Bharatpur Hospital, police said. — HNS

Teacher kidnapped

RAJBIRAJ: Cadres of the Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha-Goit (JTMM-G) abducted a teacher from Bhardaha of Saptari district on Friday night. They abducted Prem Karki, a resident of Rampurthoksila of Udayapur district and teacher of the Sarswati Sisusadan while they were on way to school at Dadha. JTMM-G district army commander Bikash has owned up the kidnapping. — HNS

Property gutted

SIRAHA: An unidentified group of persons torched a grocery shop belonging to Mahesh Kumar Shah at Belha-7 of Siraha district on Friday night. Property worth Rs 2 lakh was gutted, shopkeeper Shah said. Locals said the gang torched the shop by spraying kerosene. —HNS

One shot at

BARA: A group of seven persons shot at a worker of the Suzuki Textile in Chainpur-8 of Bara on Friday night. Jugal Kishor Mandal, a resident of Dhamaura-5 of Mahottari, was fired upon while he was returning to his residence from the textile mill. Mandal, who sustained a bullet injury in his right leg, was undergoing treatment at the Birgunj-based Narayani Sub-regional Hospital, Simara Area Police Office said. — HNS

Water shortage

TANAHUN: Damauli bazaar has been facing shortage of drinking water since Friday. Water supply has come to a halt in Wards No 2, 10 and 11 of the Byas municipality after water leakage from pipes. Locals are forced to fetch drinking water from the Madi, Seti, Sange and Buldi rivers. “Technicians are trying to control the water leakage,” Kharudev Khudal, executive officer of the Byas municipality, said. “I am struggling to run my dairy due to the lack of water,” Bikash Khanal, proprietor of the Bikash Diary, said. — HNS

KAVRE: The CPN-UML Kavre has started the constituent assembly election campaign in the district. CPN-UML standing committee member Keshav Badal inaugurated the campaign in Dhulikhel on Friday. Two drowned

ITAHARI: An eighteen-month-old child Puspa Rishidev, daughter of Dinesh Rishidev at Bharaul-7 of Sunsari, drowned in the Chatahara canal on Friday. In another incident, four-year-old child Bibek Chaudhari, son of Ram Kumar Chaudhari at Keshaliya of Biratnagar, drowned in Chapal Pokhari on Friday. — HNS
