Child drowns

ITAHARI: Two-and-a-half-year-old Sudip Karki drowned in a pond in Itahari Municipality-4 of Sunsari district on Thursday evening. Karki suddenly fell into the pond while playing near it, police said. The child’s guardians were not in the house when the mishap occurred, said the Itahari area police office. — HNS

Training for Maoists

RAJBIRAJ: A three-day training on human rights for Maoist cadres began on Friday. As many as 25 Maoist cadres, including four female cadres, are participating in the training programme that is being conducted with support from Canadian Cooperation Office. Instructor Madhu Sudan Adhikari said information about human rights, conflict, constituent assembly, international humanitarian law and social inclusion will be provided to the participants. He added that similar training programmes would be conducted in Siraha, Chitwan, Makwanpur, Bara and Rautahat. — HNS

Goodwill march

MAHOTTARI: Bramaha Kumari Rajyog Sewa Centre, Mahottari, on Thursday organised a goodwill march here on the occasion of Mahashivaratri. Devotees in the march went around Jaleswor Bazaar. The centre is also organising various other programmes including a parade, interaction programme, exhibition, the Rajyog camp festival and a discourse programme to mark the Hindu festival. NSP stir to go on

BIRGUNJ: Executive Chairman of the Nepal Sadbhavana Party, Laxman Lal Karna, has said that peaceful agitation will continue until the demands of the Madheshi people for political autonomy and a federal system are fulfilled. Karna told a press conference here on Thursday that to achieve this goal, a United Madheshi Front will be constituted on February 17 and the meeting of the front and the executive committee of the party will come up with the future roadmap of the party. There will be representation of various organisations, including the Nepal Sadbhavana Party (Anandi Devi), the Madhesi Janadhikar Forum and Madesh Loktantrik Front, in the front. — RSS

CPN-ML’s concern

KATHMANDU: The CPN-ML has asked the government to initiate talks with the agitating parties. The 18th central committee meeting of the party is to considering holding the party’s third national convention in Kathmandu from April 1-3. Party general secretary C P Mainali said the meeting debated the political statement presented by him, besides discussing the political scanario and constituent assembly polls. — HNS

Maoist action flayed

KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Janashakti Party (RJP) has raised serious concerns over what it said “bigger parties’ ignorance” towards the Maoists’ continued harassment of party workers in parts of country. Condemning the attack on its party workers by some Maoist cadres in Diktel of Khotang district on Friday, the RJP said such activities, if continued, would affect constituent assembly polls. “Such activities of the Maoist would question the impartiality of constituent assembly polls,” a party statement issued by party spokesperson Sarbendra Nath

Man killed in mishap

BARA: One Deependra Shah of Ghusukpur in Kaliaya-7, who was critically injured when his motorcycle met with an accident at Bhaluhi Bharwaliya-7 along Kalaiya-Birgunj road section on Thursday night, died while undergoing treatment at Narayani Sub Regional Hospital Birgunj early on Friday. — HNS
