Abortion cases on rise

POKHARA: Around 10.8 per cent of pregnant Nepali women are resorting to abortion, a recent survey conducted by the Nepal Family Planning Association, Kaski, said. The women go to hospitals, clinics, residences of heath workers and even to foreign countries for abortion, said the report. “There are 112 centres in 64 districts to provide safe abortion services,” said Diwas Man Pradhananag, president of Kaski NFPA. — HNS

Road reopens

DHADING: Vehicular movement on the Dhadingbenshi-Taribenshi road section, which had come to a halt for three months as the DDC made delays in repairing the road, resumed on Friday. People of 16 VDCs lying in northern parts of Dhading and 10 VDCs of Gorkha district were affected due to the halt in vehicular movement on the road. — RSS

House sealed

RAJBIRAJ: Accusing Amarikadevi Sardar, a native of Dharmpur VDC-9, Saptari district, of practising witchcraft, locals have padlocked her house. The locals made a decision to this effect at a meeting after Sardar denied practising witchcraft. Sardar filed a case at the local paralegal committee, complaining that she was subjected to mistreatment by locals on the charge of practising witchcraft. A local shaman, Rabi Sardar, is reported to have sent a circular to villagers, asking the latter not to support Amrikadevi’s family. — RSS

Hooch destroyed

GAUR: The police have seized and destroyed about 4,000 litres of hooch produced in the Subgadha Rasisawa locality of the Gaur Municipality. The police had seized hooch from the houses of Naresh Shah and Madan Shah of the ward no. 10 and Nek Mohammad of ward no.11. According to police inspector, Ganesh Banstola, police also seized instruments used in brewing alcohol. According to locals, hooch is being brewed in VDCs of Gaur Municipality. — RSS
