Katwal’s appointment :
Kathmandu: Human rights activists on Thursday expressed their concern over the possible appointment of acting chief of Nepal Army Staff Rukmangat Katwal to the post of the NA chief. They expressed this concern in a memorandum signed by 21 rights activists and civil society representatives of 18 organisations, which they submitted to PMKoirala on Thursday. “We have heard that Katwal is in the process of being appointed as the chief of NA,” rights activist Subodh Pyakurel told this daily. Grave rights violations and killings occurred in the mid-western region particularly in Chisapani when Katwal was the mid western regional commander of NA, he said. The memorandum raised concerns over the amendment and integration of the military acts. —HNS
