Funeral rites held :

Bhadrapur: Funeral rites of step mother of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs KP Sharma Oli were conducted in the riverside of the Dewaniya river near Prithvinagar on Monday. Narayani Oli, 81, who was staying with her son Jaya Prasad Oli in Himali Chowk of Prithvinagar-8, died on Sunday. — RSS

PSC probe panel :

Kathmandu: The Public Service Commission (PSC), on Monday, formed a Probe Committee under the chairmanship of a PSC member Urmila Shrestha to investigate into the publication of the results of the written examinations of section officers last year. The committee comprises of all PSC members and the representatives from the Office of the Attorney General, and Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs. — RSS

NC-D concerned :

Kathmandu: The Nepali Congress (Democratic), on Sunday, while expressing its deep shock on the murder of Tribhuwannagar Municipality President of the party, Shreedhar Kumar Subedi, by an unidentified group, said that the murder of the youth leader and a skilled party organizer has caused great loss to the party. Appealing to the government to take stern action against the criminals, the party has demanded guaranteeing of the safety of the leaders and cadres of the parties. — RSS

Property gutted :

KAVRE: A fire at the Shikhar Plywood Factory located at Panauti Municipality-1 of Kavre district at around six in the evening gutted property worth more than Rs 20 million. No human loss has been reported. Around 400 employees were working in the factory when the fire occurred. An officer at the office, Nanda Ratna Sandhyali, said an electric short circuit might have triggered the fire. — RSS

Temple funds stolen :

Bhadrapur: Offerings made at the Ram-Janaki Temple as well as the money collected in the donation box placed on the premises of the Budhabare-based temple are reported to have been stolen. Although the exact stolen amount is not known, the donation box may have contained thousands of rupees offered by the devotees visiting the temple during the month of Srawan and on Saturdays. —RSS

Farmers’ ultimatum :

DHANGADHI: Sugarcane farmers of Kailali, whom the Basuling Sugar Mills owes Rs 45m, have given an ultimatum to the government on Monday, urging it to collect the amount and interest from executive director of the mills, Arun Chand, in 15 days. They said they would stage transport strikes in Banke, Bardiya, Kailali and Kanchanpur if the government did not collect the money from Chand in the given time. — HNS

‘Manage arms first’ :

Ramechhap: A central member of Nepali Congress (Democratic), Man Mohan Bhattarai, said on Monday that constituent assembly elections can be held only in three years. Inaugurating the 11th district conference of Nepali Congress Democratic District Working Committee (Ramechhap), he said the elections cannot be held unless the arms are managed. Bhattarai said the Maoists are still collecting donation and beating people in villages. — HNS

Oli China-bound :

KATHMANDU: Minister for Foreign Affairs KP Oli will leave for a week-long official visit to China on Saturday. He is expected to meet senior Chinese officials, including the President. “This is an official visit and we have some working agendas,” said Oli without disclosing the agendas. — HNS
