One dead, six hurt as jeep plunges 20m in Salyan

KATHMANDU: A person was killed and six others injured after a jeep ferrying them veered off the road in Kapurkot Rural Municipality-4 of Salyan district, on Thursday night.

The deceased has been identified as Karmi Pun (67) and injured as Mohini Pun (68), Lok Bahadur Gharti (53), Tikaram Gharti (53), Tilak Pun (43), Krishna Gharti (24) and Tilak Pun (37), all residents of Kapurkot.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Dhakendra Khatiwada at Salyan District Police Office, the jeep (Lu 1 Cha 4253) veered off the road and fell around 20 metres below injuring all the passengers aboard, at Kimuchaur, at around 12:45 am today.

Of the injured, Karmi who was said to be in critical condition, died during the course of treatment at Tulsipur Zonal Hospital.

Police is yet to establish the cause of the fatal accident.

The jeep was often being used as a mobile shop, and transporter of vegetables and fruits to the market, DSP Khatiwada informed.

Meanwhile, investigation into the incident is underway.
