One killed, seven injured in Lamjung bus plunge

LAMJUNG: A person died and seven others sustained injuries when a passenger bus plunged into a river in Paundi of Lamjung district on Sunday.

The identity of the deceased who appears to be in her mid-thirties is yet to be established.

According to police, the bus (Ga 1 Kha 5799), en route from Beshisahar of Lamjung to Gorkha, was stationed in a neutral position when it slipped and fell some 100 metres below the road onto Paundi Rive, at around 7:40 am, injuring eight passengers.

The injured were rushed to Sundarbazaar-based Karmada Hospital where the unidentified woman was declared dead upon arrival by the hospital doctors, informed Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rabindra Man Gurung at District Police Office, Lamjung.

Among the injured, one is receiving treatment at the Karmada Hospital while four have been referred to health facilities in Chitwan for further treatment. According to police, two passengers who had sustained minor injuries have been discharged from the hospital.

There were 12 passengers on the bus at the time of the incident, informed the police.

After the preliminary investigation, police suspect that the incident occurred when the driver and driver’s assistant left the bus on to search for passengers.

Nepal police with the help of Armed Police Force(APF), Nepali Army and locals carried out the rescue operation.
