KATHMANDU: One Nepali national was on board the Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 aircraft that crashed near the town of Bishoftu killing all 149 passengers and 8 crew members, the airlines confirmed.

Ekta Adhikari, a Nepali national working with  World Food Programme (WFP) Ethiopia was on board the aircraft. According to a source in Addis Ababa, Adhikari's family has been informed about the tragic incident.

Later, WFP Chief David Beasley posted a statement mourning the death of WFP staff among others aboard the flight. (Updated at 23:17, Mar 10)

Meanwhile, Ethiopian Airlines has issued an accident bulletin stating that it has teamed up with all stakeholders concerned to conduct forensic investigations and identify the identities of the victims.

"A committee comprising of Ethiopian Airlines, Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority, and Ethiopian Transport Authority has been set up to carry out the investigations. Once the identities of the deceased are identified, their bodies will be delivered to their families and loved ones," the airlines said in a statement.
