One out of 186 pregnant women dies in Dhanusa

One woman out of 186 pregnant dies of various pregnancy related diseases and complications during delivery in Dhanusa district.
Only 25 per cent pregnant women underwent check-ups under safe motherhood programme. Midwife nurses working in the health institutions in the district accounts for only 3 per cent.
This was stated in the report made available by Dhanusa District Public Health Office (DDPHO) during an interaction programme between health workers and journalists jointly organised by DDPHO and Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ).
The report reveals that child mortality rate in the district stands at 70 in every 1,000 new born babies and the mortality rate of children below five stands at 125. Children suffering from malnutrition account for 26 per cent and children who die of gastro-enteritis stands at 160 in every 1000.
Similarly, people suffering from leprosy are 8 in every 10,000 and people suffering from malaria in every 10,000 and suffering from kala-azar in every 100,000 are 2 and 44 persons respectively.
Out of every 10,000 people, 16 people suffer from tuberculosis while children below 5 suffering from respiratory problems stand at 146 in every 1,000.
Fertility rate of the district accounts for 4.7 per cent in spite of the use of family planning materials by 37 per cent of the population in the district.
On the occasion, DDPHO chief Raj Kumar Pokharel conceded the fact that people could not be provided with quality health services because of a host of problems such as the lack of awareness, financial constraints and inadequate supply of medicines and arbitrary transference of employees.
