Menuka Kafle is the only female chair from 137 local levels of Province 1 who is vying for the post of central committee member in the 10th National General Convention of the CPN-UML.
Kafle is chair of Kamal Rural Municipality, Jhapa. She is also the National Vice-president of National Association of Rural Municipality in Nepal.
Kafle leads the All Nepal Women Association Province 1 committee.
"I decided to file my candidacy for the female quota of Province 1.'' There are six CCM quotas for Province 1. Among them, two are for women.
Kafle, who was attracted to active politics during the student movement of 1979, was actively involved in underground politics since 1985 during the Panchayat regime when political parties were banned in Nepal.
She was elected Kamal Rural Municipality chair in the first local level elections held in 2017 after the promulgation of the new constitution in 2015.
