Oppn parties set to oppose amendment bill in Parliament
Kathmandu, July 8
As the ruling partners are making efforts to garner two-thirds majority for constitution amendment, the CPN UML leadership is set to oppose the bill in the Parliament.
“We will neither join the government nor support the constitution amendment bill in its current form,” said CPN-ML Chief Whip Aindra Sundar Nembang. He also informed that the opposition group would meet tomorrow to discuss the matter.
Opposition parties, including the CPN UML, CPN ML, Rastirya Janamorcha Nepal, Nepal Workers and Peasants Party, Nepal Bahujan Samajwdi Party and some other small parties are opposed to the constitution amendment bill tabled in the Parliament.
Meanwhile, the government is set to hold talks with the main opposition UML on the issue tomorrow. Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba’s aide Bhanu Deuba told The Himalayan Times that the ruling and opposition parties will meet tomorrow. “The time and venue for the meeting will be confirmed tomorrow morning,” he added.
UML’s Deputy Parliamentary Party leader Subas Chandra Nembang said the UML leadership could be invited for talks tomorrow, and added that the party will not budge from its previous stance before civic polls are held in Province 2.
