DAMAULI, JUNE 11

Lawmakers from opposition parties today submitted a letter claiming to make Nepali Congress Gandaki Province parliamentary party leader Krishna Chandra Nepali Pokhrel as new chief minister of the province with the Office of Province Governor.

Majority of the province lawmakers met with the Province Governor Sita Kumari Poudel and staked their claim to make Pokhrel new Chief Minister.

The letter of staking claim has been registered. A total of 31 lawmakers had reached the office of the Province Governor to stake claim for the formation of the new government.

Gandaki Province has 60 lawmakers and one has to garner 31 votes to form the new government.

Thirty-one lawmakers from Nepali Congress, CPN-Maoist Centre, Janata Samajwadi Party, Rastriya Janamorcha and one independent party have signed the letter.

Yesterday, Chief Minister Prithivi Subba Gurung had lost the vote of confidence in the Province Assembly. Governor had called on the parties to form new government.

The time to stake claim for the formation of new government expires at 3:00pm on June 12.
