Panel to study challenges at provincial, local levels

Kathmandu, December 6

The second inter-governmental fiscal council meeting ended today with a decision to form a committee to analyse issues related to tax collection, revenue sharing, budget implementation and policy ambiguity in the federal governance system and suggest to the government necessary measures that need to be adopted.

The committee is led by Finance Secretary Rajan Khanal and comprises secretaries from Fiscal Commission, Financial Comptroller General Office and the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration.

According to Khanal, the Ministry of Finance will take necessary fiscal decisions based on the suggestions of the study report.

Finance ministers of provinces, meanwhile, have urged the federal government to let provinces set up infrastructure development banks and make commercial banks raise productive and deprived sector lending in regions with comparatively less development and weak human development index.
