Panta rape and murder: Nirmala’s kin begin indefinite sit-in
DHANGADI: Activists and kin of rape and murder victim Nirmala Panta have initiated an indefinite sit-in demanding the government to arrest the guilty behind the crime.
A citizens’ struggle committee organised a protest rally and began the sit-in at the District Administration Office in Bhimduttanagar on Sunday.
“We will stage a 24 hour sit-in in front of DAO unless the government arrests the perpetrator behind Nirmala Panta’s rape and murder,” coordinator of the struggle committee Helen Shrestha said. “We had to initiate an indefinite sit-in as a last resort.”
Moreover, Shrestha also accused the government of not taking the case seriously.
Likewise, Nirmala’s father Ek Raj Panta warned of staging hunger strike if the government fails to book the guilty.
“If the government fails to make public the culprit after the sit-in concludes, we (family of Nirmala) will launch a fast-unto-death,” Panta said while accusing the authorities of destroying evidence to save the guilty before the initial investigation into the case was carried out.
“Taking action against two police officials does not ensure justice to us,” he added.
Meanwhile, Krishna Raj Ojha, Deputy Superintendent of Police at District Police Office, Kanchanpur said that officials are still investigating the rape and murder.
“We won’t achieve anything unless the guilty is booked,” the DSP said, “as of now, we have sent DNA samples of the suspects for tests.”
