Wife of the deceased was also found unconscious in the house premises.
GAIGHAT, FEBRUARY 13
A person was found dead inside his bedroom in Triyuga Municipality-11 of Udayapur district on Saturday morning.
Police have suspected that the deceased, 66-year-old former teacher Birendra Rai - whose head and neck bear injuries - could have been murdered. He was a resident of Shivalaya area in the municipality.
According to police, his body was recovered from the second floor of his house. The man's wife Rita, 52, was also found unconscious at the building premises. She is presently receiving treatment at a Biratnagar-based nursing home and her health has stabilised, added the police.
The patient under treatment complained of an attack by members of her community, based on which the police have made an arrest. Details of the matter will be revealed after additional testimonies are obtained from the patient, stated chief at the District Police Office, Superintendent of Police (SP) Bhim Bahadur Dahal.
It has been learnt that deceased Rai, who was originally from Khotang, had been living with his second wife in Udayapur for the past two years. Fifteen days prior to the incident, an attempt had been made by a person to sexually assault Rita. The accused has been remanded in police custody for questioning.
Further investigation into the case is underway.
