Regional correspondent of The Himalayan Times, Prakash Singh, who was honoured with the 'JP Joshi Memorial Journalism Award' has handed over his received prize money to the family on whose name the award was established.

"I handed over the prize amount to the family of JP Joshi, intending to help them in whatever little way I can," shared feted THT journo Prakash Singh. The family of JP Joshi reside in Godavari Municipality-3 of Kailali district.

JP Joshi had gone missing on October 8, 2008. On November 28 of the same year, his body was recovered from Malakheti forest.

JP Joshi is survived by his wife Basanti Joshi and two daughters. His daughters, Pooja Joshi and Gita Joshi, currently attend Grades 10 and 6 respectively, in Attariya. Central office of the Federation of Nepali Journalists had been covering the cost of their education for as long as five years.

However, in absence of funding for the past one and a half years, it has been difficult for the family to pay their tuition fees, shared Basanti Joshi. "Neither have those responsible for the death of my husband been apprehended nor am I able to run the family," shared Basanti, in tears.

Prakash Singh, who has been in the profession for around a decade, is also committed to helping those in need. As of today, Singh has supported 71 children in need of help. Similarly, Singh has also helped rescue more that two dozen people who were suffering in absence of health care. Singh has received much praise and appreciation from the Bajura locals for the same.
