PM could claim legitimacy of Oli-faction on ruling Nepal Communist Party
KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 09
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is set to visit the Election Commission today to take stock of preparations for upcoming mid-term elections slated for April 30 and May 10.
Earlier, the Election Commission had summoned leaders from both the factions of ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) -- led by KP Sharma Oli and splinter Dahal-Nepal faction -- to discuss the intra-party dispute and the upcoming mid-term polls, on January 29.
While the Dahal-Nepal faction had already approached the EC to claim their legitimacy over the party, PM Oli was yet to appear befor the commission.
Both the factions have been claiming their full legitimacy on the party. However, the EC has been reiterating that the claimants need to fully satisfy their requirements to claim full legitimacy.
It is being speculated that Oli would also claim full legitimacy over the party on reaching the commission in the pretext of overseeing election preparations.
The mid-term election dates were announced on December 20 after PM Oli recommended the dissolution of House of Representatives of the federal parliament which was swiftly approved the President Bidya Devi Bhandari.
