POKHARA, FEBRUARY 04

Daily life has been affected in Pokhara of Kaski district owing to the country-wide general strike called by Dahal-Nepal faction of Nepal Communist Party (NCP) against Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli-led government, today.

The Dahal-Nepal splinter group of NCP called for the strike following the swearing in of constitutional bodies' appointees, bypassing parliamentary hearings, on Wednesday. The faction has been carrying out multiple demonstrations and sit-in protests against PM Oli's decision to dismantle the House of Representatives and announcement of fresh polls amid the pandemic-induced economic crisis.

Major markets in Pokhara Metropolitan City was seen deserted with shopkeepers keeping their shutters down except for eateries, chemists, educational institutions, among others.

The Ministry of Home Affairs, on Wednesday, had issued a notice urging all against the strike and asked people to go about their daily lives as usual. The Ministry also claimed that adequate security will be enforced to maintain peace and safety.
