A police inspector rescued a 35-year-old woman after she jumped into the Lal Bakaiya River in Maulapur Municipality-4 on Tuesday morning.
The woman has been identified as Lalita Devi Paswan of Dipahee village in Madhav Narayan Municipality-1. According to police, she left her home at around 5 am without informing family members.
Locals later spotted her struggling in the river and immediately alerted the Area Police Office, Maulapur.
Police Inspector Bharat KC rushed to the scene and entered the swollen river despite the risks posed by the current, successfully rescuing Paswan alive, according to the District Police Office, Rautahat.
She was taken to the Area Police Office for a health assessment and was found to be in normal condition. Police also informed her family members about the incident.
According to police, Paswan's husband works as a tailor in Kathmandu and the couple have four sons.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Basanta Gautam said investigations are underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident, and further details will be released after the inquiry is completed.
