‘Police in Our Neighbourhood’ campaign launched
Pokhara, September 22
Police in our neighbourhood — a joint campaign to ensure civic participation in maintaining peace and security— was launched in Kaski today. The campaign was launched as per the 84-point reform guidelines drafted by Ministry of Home Affairs.
Before launching the campaign, a rally and an interaction programme was organised.
Chief District Officer Tara Nath Adhikari, chiefs of security agencies, civil society representatives and officials from different social organisations participated in the programme.
“This campaign has been launched to make police personnel more responsible towards people’s security and increase people’s participation in maintaining peace and harmony in society,” said CDO Adhikari.
Civil society activist Tek Nath Baral said a policeman had to provide security to as many as 864 individuals due to manpower crunch. “Hence, people’s cooperation and support is a must for the security agencies to maintain law and order in society,” said Baral.
Meanwhile, DSP Khadga Bahadur Khatri, spokesperson for District Police Office, Kaski, presented a paper and assured that this campaign would go a long way in curbing hooliganism, violence and misbehaviour against women, smuggling, robbery, drug abuse, human trafficking and sex abuse, among other crimes.
The campaign has been launched in various local levels across the country simultaneously. In each locality, a coordination committee, comprising local representatives and police personnel, will be formed.
With new campaign being launched across the country, it is expected that police force in the country will strengthen its relation with public and guarantee people’s direct involvement in controlling crime.
