SARLAHI, NOVEMBER 20

Sarlahi police have seized a truck loaded with garlic believed to be intended for smuggling into India.

The truck (Province 02-04-001 Kha 0069), was stopped for inspection at Sakhuwa village in Brahmapuri Rural Municipality-5, located near the Nepal-India border two days ago. Upon inspection, authorities found 9.5 tons of garlic on board. The truck was seized after officials identified discrepancies in the invoice provided by the driver, according to the District Police Office in Malangwa.

The total estimated value of the confiscated garlic stands at Rs 1.9 million, while the truck itself is valued at Rs 2.1 million, bringing the total seizure value to Rs 4 million. Both the garlic and the truck have been handed over to the Malangwa Customs Office for further action, as reported by DSP Dipak Shrestha, spokesperson for the District Police Office, Sarlahi.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the garlic was likely destined for cross-border smuggling.

Further investigation into the case is underway to uncover how the truck arrived at Sakhuwa and its intended destination.
