Political hue tarring SLC exam in Morang
BIRATNAGAR; A dispute between the District Education Office, Morang and the Private and Boarding Schools’ Organisation of Nepal (PABSON) over appointment of exam centre superintendents for the School Leaving Certificate (SLC) examination is heightening.
Organising a press conference in Biratnagar, PABSON Morang claimed that the upcoming SLC exam will not be held in a disciplined manner for the DEO has appointed superintendents on the recommendation of political parties.
Following the dispute between PABSON and the education office, there has been a confusion on the deployment of the employees in the exam centres. Till Wednesday evening, no examination materials were taken to exam centres due to the dispute.
Protesting the DEO decision, Tikaram Puri, central vice-chairman, PABSON, said, “Morang PABSON condemns the political parties’ interference while appointing superintendents for SLC exam centres”.
However, Upendra Dahal, an official at the DEO, said his office had appointed superintendents among different political representatives after the teachers affiliated to various political parties demanded their share in the appointments.
According to Dahal, the DEO has allocated 12 posts of superintendents each for the Nepali Congress, the CPN-UML and the Unified CPN-Maoist, 10 for the Madhes-based parties and five for PABSON.
Altogether 51 examination centres have been fixed for the SLC exam in Morang. The dispute heightened after the DEO demanded giving one of the posts given to PABSON to Madhes-based parties. “We can easily anticipate how disciplined the exams will be,” Tikaram Puri expressed concern.
Rajesh Das, chairman, Morang PABSON, argued that political interference in SLC exam has to end forever. He claimed that examination conducted on the basis of political meddling can never be disciplined.
Yesterday, Madhes-based parties had prevented
examination materials from being taken to
exam centres.
