Poll campaigning in full swing in Udayapur

Gaighat, June 9

Political parties have stepped up election campaigning in Udayapur for phase II civic polls slated for June 28. Political party leaders, cadres and election candidates are busy in door-to-door campaigning to win voters’ trust.

Major parties have finalised their candidates for four municipalities and all rural municipalities in the district. Parties including the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, the CPN-Maoist Centre are contesting the polls unilaterally, while Upendra Yadav-led Federal Socialist Forum and Naya Shakti Nepal of Baburam Bhattarai have formed an electoral alliance.

Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal is holding back its participation in the polls demanding amendment to the constitution. However, it is preparing for the polls in a hush-hush manner.  Former leader Biswonath Sah of Tarai Madhes Democratic Party said the RJPN centre must have internally directed party leaders and cadres to prepare for the polls in a clandestine way as they might go to the polls.

RJP-N Udayapur coordinator Khusilal Thakur said they were working to strengthen their base and organisation internally. “We are of course preparing for the polls internally though the centre has not issued any diktat for the same,” Thakur added.
